The Party

The next day was Party Day.  There were lots and lots of friends who had lots and lots of children.  The deck and yard were full of activity.  SR fired up the BBQ and cooked hamburgers, hotdogs and sausages (moose of course) and of course there was more cake.  Although it was raining in the morning, by afternoon the sun came out (for the first time in about a week!!) and it actually got hot out there.  The kids had a grand time playing all day long.

Cake time.  This kids were so excited about their Birthday cakes.

For their Birthday, Mom took them downtown on the City Bus to Marble Slab, where they had an Ice Cream cone, then on the City Bus once more to go home.  They LOVED it.

They probably had had enough sugar by the time the cake came around but what is a Birthday without cake??

Wonder Woman

Haven't been to the movies for a long long time.  Went to see Wonder Woman on Monday night.  The good thing about getting old is getting "seniors" deals.  First of all, we get in to all non 3-D movies for $6 but if we go on Monday night we get an additional discount  and pay $4.80.  How can I resist?

Wonder Woman had excellent reviews and for good reason.  The story clips along at a fast pace and if it wasn't for the rock hard lousy uncomfortable theatre seats, I would have thoroughly enjoyed it.  The story is easy to follow and although there is violence - she IS Wonder Woman - it fits with the story.  We watch a little girl grow to become a powerful woman.  There is romance, humour and of course, good over evil in the plot.  I went with four others and we all enjoyed it.  I give it 4.5 out of 5 Stars.

Tuesday June 13

I had to go and brag about our weather (although I wasn't really bragging as it was too hot for most of us).  Today and in the near future it is rainy with a high of 11°C and low of 2-4°C.  The wet weather is not doing much for the completion of shingling my roof either.

Hot Hot Hot - June 9

Last couple of days it has been hot hot hot.  Above is the temperature at 5:00 PM, not in the sunshine.  My roofers had to go home early the other day because the shingles were melting onto their shoes.  And no rain, which for me is quite good as I am getting new shingles, but it is not very good for the forest fires.  The conditions are extreme.

Now, having said all that, one never knows if this is our Yukon summer and the rest of the days will be cold.   It is forecast to go down to 13 degrees in a day or two.  So to celebrate the warm weather, Nancy invited us over for a byo drinks and byo food evening in her back yard.It was lovely to sit outside on the lawn on a warm summer eve.

Banner Boy

Forgot to post this.  A few weeks back, when the twins were in Dawson City with their Mom and Gran for the Gold Show, CBC took Emerson's photo while he was playing in the sand box which was suppose to be representing the goldfields with all the equipment.  They then used that photo as their banner for their Facebook Page.  Fun.

Out to Lunch

Off to Bean North for Lunch.  Couldn't get a more beautiful setting for a meal.  I would say quick meal but we were there for over two hours !

Flowers already in bloom in their garden.

Love their weather vane.

Joan admiring the scenery.

New Shingles

Yeah !!!!  Work has now begun on the replacing the shingles on my roof.  North-Line Roofing is doing the job.  So far so good.

Whitehorse Air Show

An air show celebrating the nation’s birthday and the role aviation has played in the North was in Whitehorse on Sunday.
The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour 2017 – Wings Over The North put on a display at the Whitehorse International Airport. It is touring all the Territories and either flying over or flying over AND landing on the ground so the public can inspect the planes and will visit most northern cities and towns (97 in all).  It is apparently an $8 million event.
So, on Sunday we went.  The first show was two planes doing the usual air show loop-de-loops etc.  The thing I thought was spectacular about it was the one plane they called Dad, was piloted by a 81 year old, who, on his 80th birthday did 141 pushups!  (I can do 20)

We did view the first acrobatics from the field with the crowd, but then made our was to the Horizon Helicopters' office and joined the helicopter people and their families there to watch the remainder of the show.

The show had to stop about four times to allow three Air North Planes to take off and/or land and one Air Canada Plane.  (the air show crowds clapped for Air North).

The day had beautiful blue skies for the event ...  but that wind!  It was constant and strong and cold.  The photo above is looking towards the runway, but I didn't do so good in capturing the planes in the air.
