Summertime

Here's the view of the Hotdog Man from my window at work. He does a booming business at the corner of 3rd & Main.
Arts in the Park is going once again this summer. Saw my favourite busker playing his bluesy sax on stage yesterday. I'll try to remember my camera when I go again. It is such a lovely spot in the middle of the tiny park in downtown Whitehorse. Every day (weather permitting) musicians play during the lunch hour and people just stroll into the park, eat their lunch and listen to good music. That is the park (by the way) beside the Smith House, where I used to work in the mid '80's and just a couple of blocks from where I currently work, so very handy.

View from the Course

As if good friends, fresh air and exercise aren't enough, the scenery at the golf course help make it worthwhile. As the summer gets closer, the scenery becomes more and more spectacular -- the greens become greener and the surroundings more lush.
The Yukon River (above) is still working on becoming ice-free.

The mountains seen from the 9th hole are majestic.

And the crocus never fails to warm a Yukoner's heart.

Hittin' the Links

The 19th Hole is always welcome. New caterers this year look very promising. They are not only friendly and have a good menu, but are snazzing up the place with table cloths and flowers. A very pleasant ending to a good round of golf.

May begins golf season. The greens are still temporary, and the grass is just beginning to grow, but it is fun to be knocking the ball around in any case. Tuesday night is the start of Ladies League - come rain or shine.

The sun was shining today - but still had to wear a sweater and a coat. The north wind carries no warmth. But, on the positive side, it was a heck of a lot warmer than yesterday.

Happy Mother's Day!

Much to my surprise, my little boy was home on Mother's Day - something I didn't expect. He took me over to his newly rented house and after a tour we sat, drank beer and told stories of when he was a wee one.

His friend Brooke was there too. The house is in the newest area of the Vinyl Village (Copper Ridge) and will suit them just fine.
Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers out there!

New Art Gallery in Town

There's a new art gallery in town - Copper Moon Gallery - well, not actually in town, but in McCrae, close enough. It's attached onto Artists At Work. We went tonight to a competition they were holding of art of any kind that uses or shows copper. It was fabulous. Whenever you come to town, I will take you there.

Old Timers' Indoor Soccer Tournament

May 1, 2, and 3, saw the Whitehorse Old Timers' Indoor Soccer Tournament this year. Once again, they asked me to take some photos for them. Above are just a couple. They run the photos as a slide show at the tournament dinner and the guys have such fun viewing them. I was assisted this year by Matthew who was up with his dad from Calgary and Michele edits the hundreds of pics we load onto her laptop. We had two teams from Juneau this year as well as a team from Dawson City. Tournament dinner is held on Saturday night, before the final games on Sunday to allow the Juneau players time to get home. Thanks to Terry for asking me to be a part of the fun.
