This was taken driving home last night at about 10:15 PM. Although it was overcast, it was still bright enough that I didn't think to turn on my headlights until half way home. This is the Mayo Road (the road to Dawson City) in the Lake Laberge area. The longest day is coming soon - Tuesday I believe, then the days start to get shorter.  Posted by Hello
Look into the sun Terry and Mogens and smile! I can be a real pain sometimes and I'm certain I'll get heck for publishing this, but the setting sun does give them a real glow. Posted by Hello
Literally ate dinner "on the marge of Lake Laberge" last night. Here we are at Deep Creek which runs into the lake, or as it appeared last night, the lake was running into the creek. Although it was raining at my house, 20 minutes north the sun shone. Posted by Hello

And my tomatoes are ripening. I don't have a greenhouse - it's toooo cold at night for them outside - so I grow my plant in the dining room. Thanks to Helen for faithfully starting a plant for me each year. Posted by Hello
And the Icelantic poppies have been in bloom since the snow left. They will continue until the snow returns. Posted by Hello
Wild roses are now coming into bloom. Their scent is heavenly. They are all over - up my driveway, at the golf course, even downtown. Posted by Hello

Monday, June 13, 2005

Well, the fluffy weather is just about over, and now the yellow mist begins. The willows' yellow pollen coats everything. I expect one more week of that, then we'll be back to normal, as long as we don't have any forest fires with wood smoke filling the air.

Had a busy weekend. Went to the Kulych house on Friday for a feast. It was Natasha's birthday and her brother's high school graduation party. Shaun came into town (on a sadder note - he attended a funeral in Champagne for a fellow he worked with who had a car accident just north of Burwash - he was only 23 - he said there must have been 300 people at this funeral). He stayed the night then left at 6 AM to return to work. The party was fun. Lots of people I haven't seen for a long while and great food including Angie's cabbage rolls. Golfed Saturday, and of course went to the Yukon Game Preserve Sunday. Also went to the art coop in McRae, Yukon Artists @ Work. Stumbled upon their Sunday Brunch on the Deck - food by the Chocolate Claim and music by Steve Slade. Tony Clennett and Bela Simo were the featured artists this weekend - their work is fabulous! I was actually looking for Patrick Royle as I wanted to purchase his pottery as a gift. As it happened, he came into his studio with his son to get something right when I was looking for him, so it worked out perfectly. Made my purchase and made me happy!

Some little critter is eating my flowers! Helen is going to look in her scat book to see if we can identify him (I'm sure it's a him). It eats the tender plants right down to ground level.

Other than that, our weather has turned to summer - shorts & halter top weather, so I'm taking advantage of that. It currently looks like a hot sunny day is brewing outside my window, so I must go and take advantage of that.

Here is a picture of the Wildlife Preserve from the bus. The weather has been superb so viewing was excellent. Posted by Hello
It was Yukoners' Appreciation Day at the Wildlife Preserve today, so off we went. I had never been before and it was great. The 45 minute bus ride took us through the Preserve to see moose, caribou, dall sheep, goats, elk, musk ox, buffalo, and I'm sure others that have momentarily slipped my mind . There are over 700 acres for these animals to roam and the settings are similar to their natural habitat. It was entertaining and educational. Posted by Hello

And my deck is ready for visitors...remember the big pitchers of Margueritta's I am serving up there. Posted by Hello
And among all this fluff, the lupin are beginning to bloom. Posted by Hello
I walked through the "lower forty" today. It looks like clouds on the ground. As I said, the weather is fluffy! Posted by Hello
Our weather is fluffy. The poplars are shedding their seeds like never before. It looks like SNOW on the ground. I guess they really want to reproduce this year. Posted by Hello
And the party ended with gifts - pictures of all those I am leaving AND Margueritta glasses and a huge pitcher - so you'll know what I'll serve when you come to visit me. As well a box of golf balls - very useful now that I have this summer off! Posted by Hello
My last day of work was May 31st. On Friday, May 27th my branch had a barbque at Cheryl's house. Everyone came with their families. It was a lot of fun - mooseburgers and bbq salmon. The clouds even went away and the sun shone on my party. Posted by Hello
