The last words

Not to prolong the Royals' visit but I didn't realize at the time that my friend Debbie's daughter Cody-Anne was amongst the welcoming party for the Prince and Duchess.  Above is a photo of the welcoming line with Cody and her partner Peter right there.  Kewl!

And lastly (is that a word or a Trump kinda word?) I took a photo of this secret service man who was always right in front of me, whether I was at the Museum, in the crowd on the walk-about or here above where the car was waiting to take away the Royals.  So while I was waiting for them to arrive at their auto, I took a photo of him.   The most surprising thing about him is his double face!!!!!!  I have NEVER taken a photo where two faces appeared like this.  It is almost like he has a super power.  Very strange.

A Royal Walk-About

When they left the museum there was a planned walk-about.  I heard (from a secret service man) that they would not leave through the front doors, but through a rear door, so when they entered the museum I began to walk by the crowds lining the street.  Once again I spotted a small empty spot at the front of the masses and took my spot.  Across the road were school kids waiting patiently to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  Helium balloons were handed out in the colours of the British flag.

Of course, when the couple emerged, almost every child (as well as all the people watching everywhere) pulled out their cameras in the hopes of a good picture of the Royals.

Out they came and for the most part I had a good view of they, except when an RCMP or Security Agent stepped in my way.

They began their walk along Front Street and onto Main Street but I have to say they quite whizzed past the area I was in.  Within about five seconds they were gone.

The closest photo I took of Will and Kate - and they both had their eyes closed.  Oh well, I guess you cannot look Royal all the time.

I have NEVER seen so many people in Whitehorse gathered in one place.  It was very special for us to have Prince William and Katherine visit our town.  Everyone was so excited and gave them a grand welcome.

They are now off to Carcross, then back to Whitehorse to depart this evening.  They really must stay longer on their next visit.

The Royals at the McBride Museum

Got up early today to head downtown to once again - see the Royals.  Got there after a lot of other people but there was a small spot at the very front of the McBride Museum opened and I took it.  We waited and waited and then the sun rose over the mountains and blinded us. Not exactly excellent lighting for photo taking, but it was better than rain (or snow ... it was around 0°C).

Of course security was stiff.  While waiting we got to see the sniffer police dog in action.  He sniffed the bushes, the people, the camera cases, his tail wagging all the while.

And then they arrived.

Will and Kate were greeted at the road when they exited their vehicle.  They looked as gracious and smiley as every, Kate wearing a brilliantly red coat which made her easy to spot.

From the curb, they headed for the museum entrance.

A group of Boy Scouts were waiting to meet them.  It looks like someone told a joke as Larry Bagnell (Yukon's MP) as well as both Will and Kate are smiling.

Kate seemed to really enjoy those Boy Scouts.

The Royals First (and only) Night Here

While I was typing up my last entry, I was listening to a live stream of the presentation put on at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre for Will and Kate.  This was live streamed by CBC Facebook and at the end the Royal Couple were invited up on stage and presented with a book.  I took a screen shot for you to see them on stage with our Premier and a little (I think) Van Bibber.  As you can see they didn't seem to even have time to change from the clothes they wore on the plane.  (I think I saw Cody-Anne and Peter in the audience sitting in about the third row behind the Royal Couple).  (Hope they got to bow and curtsey before royalty)

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge visit Whitehorse

Went to see the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge late this afternoon.  Above is the crowd that gathered to welcome the Royal Couple.

Their plane arrived only about 10 minutes late.  When it was nearing a stop the Royal Standard appeared from the cockpit window.

The Royal Couple emerged and the crowd was excited.  The First Nations lady behind me noticed an eagle flying overhead when they walked down the stairs - a good omen.

They were met by the Rangers and Cadets as well as the spattering of usual dignitaries.

I know this is blurry but as a short person I had to squish in between multiple people, bend down so I didn't block anyone elses view and quickly snap a photo when car number two passed.  I didn't even know if I got him in the picture until I reviewed my photo.

On the drive home, while driving up the Hamilton Boulevard Extension, I spotted this fellow on the side of the road eating grass as well as a few female deers.  I didn't even know we had deer here, but here is proof.  Is this another good omen?

Just a short post

Had the kids over for supper yesterday as Brooke was hosting a Book Club at their house.  SR came as well after work and we all had a great time together.  Not difficult entertaining the kids at this age as they are interested in everything I have for them (thank you Garage Sales!).

Bits and Bobs

Spent an hour or so at SR's house and this is what I found.  I especially liked Emerson's left leg ... a man in training.

When was the last time you read one of these?  I just finished The Mystery at Lilac Inn and felt like I was in Grade 3 again.  So much happens in each action packed page based on the cases this sleuth trips upon.  I loved it.

Sully

Went to see Sully tonight.  Of course I know the story of Captain Sullenberger who landed his plane in the Hudson River, saving all 155 of the crew and passengers.  No surprises here.  The surprise came in the fact that I didn't know the rest of the story, nor did I think this story, though interesting, could keep my rapt attention for the entire time of the movie.  Tom Hanks is EXCELLENT as Captain Chesley Sullenberger.  The range of emotions this movie allows us to experience is vast.  Perhaps I have a soft spot for planes (did I say I used to work for CP Air??) or perhaps it is because this could happen to any of us that takes a plane trip and puts our life in the hands of the pilot and co-pilot or perhaps it is because Clint Eastwood is an excellent Director, but this is one fine movie.  If you want to be entertained for 96 minutes go and see this movie.  I give it 5 out of 5 Stars!

Cabins and Trailers

Yes they were at the cabin but it was easier with the kids to pull their new trailer there.  It really has everything including running water, a bathroom, kitchen and beds that contain two little ones.

Yes, I mean these two little ones!

We did go into the big cabin as well.  Alanna decided it was time to draw, so she set herself up at the table and asked for a Pink crayon.

Emerson's favourite colour is Green, so he was drawing with green crayons.  I then asked them to sit together on the couch so I could take a photo of both of them.  I set them together, stepped back and raised my camera.  That took a fraction of a second, and in that time, Alanna was on her way to somewhere else and Emerson was eating the Green crayons.  Whew.

Long Weekend Drive

Was going to do some fall type work outside today but after all the rain we had, everything was still wet.  Got an invite to visit the cabin so I took advantage of it.  I am amazed at how much this road has changed.  For one thing, it has recently been graded and was fairly smooth.  As well, there is a new paved pull-out!  Wow!!  Above it a partial view from this new pull-out.

There is also a new sign - bigger and does not have the bullet holes in it ... yet.

Above is the cabin.  The next time I see it, there will be snow all over.  It is about 1,000 feet above Whitehorse, so the summer is always shorter up here.

The outhouse is all ready with a broom which can be used to remove any nasty little spiders.  With two doors, there is no waiting in line here.
