I can't believe it took me this long to actually see the leaning tower of Pisa. It was one (of the many) highlights of my trip. Construction of this tower began in 1174 and it started to tilt after the completion of the first 3 stories which, they discovered, was because it was not built on solid rock, but water-soaked clay. Eventually it was completed and if straight, would measure 180 feet tall - the tilt is about 14 feet from perpendicular. The tilt worsened and in 1990 was closed to the public. It is now stabilized and tours now continue (maximum 35 to 40 people at a time ) at a cost of about 30 Euros. It is quite the site to see.

Hey Carol,
I am glad you made it back safe and sound. Pretty amazing that you can go on holiday and in real time let people know what you are doing and seeing.
Easier to answer the questions in your last email here.
The pic was from Joey's prom night. And yes you are right we no longer have boys but men. Joey is actually graduating this year but is coming back for one semester next fall. He is only 17 and will not be 18 until December. Too young to be trotting off to university. Joey's marks are very good so in a sense he will just be putting in time. He will be finished in January and then will have from then to Sept to goof around or work or whatever before he goes to university.
The last week of August we will be traveling east to check out universities, Acadia, Mount Alison etc.
Talk to you soon.
Joe
Carol
Any word on Uncle Andy?
