In case you don't feel like reading the article below, here is a quick view of what Michio Kaku was talking about:

The Future

Things you can learn on TV. Now I know this was on Steven Cobert, but Michio Kaku (professor of theoretical physics at CUNY - and a person I thought I would not understand anything he said considering his profession but understood everything perfectly) said

"Lurking in space are asteroids even bigger than the city busters—to wit, “nation busters” big enough to destroy Germany or England. The most dangerous one is called Apophis, which is 1,000 feet across and will come dangerously close to Earth in 2029 and again in 2036. The most recent calculations show that Apophis will barely miss Earth in 2029, but will actually graze our atmosphere. But because of the uncertainty of its path as it whizzes past, there is a small possibility that its orbit may be perturbed so it might actually hit Earth in 2036. NASA scientists are reasonably confident it will still miss Earth in 2036, but the head of the Russian space agency takes the threat of a collision seriously, stating that we have to prepare for the worst. If Apophis hits Earth, it would have the force of approximately 20,000 Hiroshima bombs."

Countries are considering shooting a rocket up to deflect the asteroid.  If you're interested (and if not now, bookmark this page and perhaps closer to 2029 it will be more relevant to you) click here.

Caleb's friend

This doesn't often happen in February, but the temperature pushed over 0 this afternoon so I was able to make snowballs and watch Lily chase them in the deep snow - oh such fun!

As I could make a snowball AND as Caleb's friend Josh is having a great time in Disneyland, I thought I would make a friend for Caleb in his absence.  It actually was suppose to be a snow dog but in the end looked more like a snow bear but Caleb wasn't complaining.

As I was trying to take a close up photo of Caleb and his new friend, someone poked their head into the frame and ...

As the head receded, something was missing from Caleb's friend.  Caught !! And on Film too!

A Fox in the Dark

The other morning I awoke at 5AM.  Unable to get back to sleep, I went downstairs, made a cuppa, and turned on the news.  Before I settled down to sip my coffee I went to the window to view the street in the quiet of the morning.  And, in the moment it took me to look out the window, a fox trotted by with its pointed nose at one end and bushy tail following at the other.  I thought "how fortunate, just in that moment in time, to see this animal pass by".  Another coincidence that is entering my life of late.

Tonight, as I walked Lily on her lead, about 40 feet before me, I once again saw a fox - perhaps the same one I saw the other morning, crossing Hamilton Boulevard.  And, oddly enough, it crossed the road at the crosswalk.

Calm and warm

While it is storming in the east we are enjoying warm (well relatively) calm weather. Hunker down you Easterners, it's perfect weather to grab a book and a big cup of cocoa, light the fireplace and let nature do its thing.

A February Walk

The government has begun to make these tunnels under the road - to allow moose to pass from one side of the road to the other in safety (who is going to tell the moose that is where they are suppose to go?).  But, it is very convenient when walking a dog.
Lily and I found the trail behind my house that goes through the bush to the Hamilton Boulevard extension.  It is great as we have the trail all to ourselves in the early afternoon and the entire walk takes close to an hour.

Here's Lily half way through the tunnel.  (The traffic overhead can confuse her).

And out the other side to continue our walk.
